Someday soon, I'll plant peas & spinach. I'm watching the weather & waiting. I knew the recent taste of spring weather was just a tease and I probably wouldn't get them in the ground til around April 15. But I like to dream. I've been poring through my catalogs, refining choices & planning what sort of container mayhem I can have this year. Heh, think I'm building coldframes for the fall. I'm hoping this summer's better for growing melons-last year was too cool. I'm doing the majority of my ordering from The Cook's Garden, easily my favorite catalog. And I may as well mention their wonderful cookbook, From The Cook's Garden. And what the heck, this is the point where I should also confess I'm quite taken with the work of Mary Azarian. She does the fabulous woodcut prints illustrating the cookbook & catalog and, for you book geeks out there, also illustrated Snowflake Bentley by Jacqueline Briggs Martin. Of course, Mother Nature must've heard me dreaming, cos the kids just came in screaming that it's snowing. Meh.
I love Cooks Garden, too. My garlic is coming up very well, but I'm also waiting a bit longer to plant the cool season crops like peas. I've never had much luck with spinach, but I might give it another try. Spring is on it's way!
